Consultation has concluded

November 2023

In July we asked you to help us research how we can prevent and control high blood pressure in Lambeth's Black and Multi-Ethnic communities

This part of the project has now closed, with sincere thanks to all of you who supported it!

As at the end of August, final interviews and focus groups took place. The project team are now working with Comuzi on the final report.

June-July 2023

Help us research how we can prevent and control high blood pressure in Lambeth's Black and Multi-Ethnic communities

Lambeth Together Neighbourhood and Wellbeing Alliance wants to involve people from Black African, Black Caribbean, and other minority ethnic backgrounds in our work to tackle high blood pressure (or hypertension). We are planning to hold individual interviews and group discussions from July 2023.

We want to empower and support Lambeth people to live healthier lives, preventing high blood pressure where possible. And, if people are diagnosed with high blood pressure, we want to make sure they get early advice and the most effective and appropriate ongoing treatment and support to help them manage and keep their blood pressure under control.

Just over a third of Lambeth adults have higher than average blood pressure, and data shows that Black communities and those on lower incomes are among the most likely to have worrying or potentially dangerous blood pressure problems.

We want to reduce these inequalities by better understanding the experience of high blood pressure among Lambeth’s Black and Multi-Ethnic communities and co-designing any necessary changes. To do this, we need to hear from people who are directly affected.

What’s involved and who can take part?

We’re arranging individual interviews and small group discussions in the next few weeks (from July 2023) and would like to invite people from Black African, Black Caribbean or other minority ethnic backgrounds who are registered with a Lambeth GP and have an income of less than £21,000 to take part.

If this is you, and you can also tick one or more of the following boxes, we want to hear from you:

• You’ve been diagnosed with hypertension (high blood pressure) in the last 12 months

• You’ve had a stroke or heart attack in the last 12 months

• You’ve been diagnosed with chronic kidney disease in the last 12 months

• You’ve been told you are at risk of hypertension by a health professional

• You’ve been invited to a cardiovascular (heart health) check up in the last 12 months (even if you didn’t attend)

What happens next?

We will be in touch as soon as we can if you’re eligible to take part. Your experience and views and information you share will help us improve support and services for people with high blood pressure in Lambeth and make sure that support is culturally appropriate for all communities.

Thank you.
