Improving health and care in Plumstead, Glyndon and Woolwich
Our north central neighbourhood in Greenwich covers Plumstead and Glyndon, Woolwich Arsenal, Plumstead Common, Woolwich Common, and Woolwich Dockyard.
Partners in the Healthier Greenwich Partnership have been working together for some time to strengthen the Plumstead and Glyndon community and help them live happier and healthier lives.
We're listening to their concerns and needs, and supporting them to develop their local community to meet their needs.
We're keen to work even closer with people in this neighbourhood, including the Woolwich area.
This page will be updated as we develop our approach, but you can read about the journey so far and what local people have shared and developed.
Plumstead and Glyndon Delivery Team
The Plumstead and Glyndon Delivery Team is a diverse group made up of residents, stakeholders, and community and faith leaders. The team meets monthly, and its conversations and actions are guided by community feedback and shared priorities.
An action plan has been developed, outlining five priority working groups:
1. Young people
Focused on identifying existing youth services in the neighbourhood and recognising gaps that need to be addressed.
Youth workers from organisations including St John’s Church, Fresh Chance, CACT, Train with Tara, the Ukrainian Project, and residents collaborated to explore opportunities and challenges.
As a result, a community survey was launched to gather wider input.
2. Employability hub
Developed in response to local feedback highlighting untapped skills among residents and a need for employment support.
The aim is to create a hub offering access to training, job opportunities, coaching, and peer support.
This work has been developed as a collaborative approach and supported by the following agencies: GllaB and Greenwich Advice Hub.
3. Community garden
Designed to improve and activate the outdoor space around Glyndon Community Centre.
The garden will provide opportunities for residents to connect, enjoy healthy walks, and enhance the look and feel of the area.
4. Communication
Focused on improving the way information is shared across the neighbourhood.
Work includes developing a regular newsletter and other methods to keep residents informed and involved.
5. Engagement and outreach
This group was set up to increase resident engagement and lead outreach efforts across the community.
Community Voting Day – 5 July 2025
On Saturday 5 July, communities in three areas of the borough took part in their own Community Voting Day to vote for the projects they want to see funded to help improve the health and wellbeing in their area. This event followed the participatory budgeting model, a democratic process that allows community members to decide how public funds are spent directly.
Community leaders set the priorities for the funding that included: social and community connection, physical activity, mental health and wellbeing, built environment, raise awareness or improve access to local support and services, and food. Projects could bid for up from £250 to £1,000.
In Plumstead & Glyndon in total, 14 applications were received, and the community selected 10 projects to be delivered in the community over the coming year.
