Lambeth Together partner, Healthwatch Lambeth, is starting a new mental health project looking at recovery, the stage when people have been discharged from hospital and are back in the community, supported by community teams and by their GP.

Initial discussions at Mosaic Clubhouse and a survey at The Sanctuary showed how important it is to look at holistic support for people with severe mental illness.

Healthwatch Lambeth is focusing on Black men as it has consistently been shown this group has the poorest experiences and outcomes when it comes to mental health services. Healthwatch Lambeth wants to talk to Black African and Black Caribbean men living in Lambeth who have a severe mental illness, who have been in hospital for their mental health issues and, once discharged, are in the care of their GP and community teams.

Is this you?

They want to hear what would help you to recover, stay well, and lead a fulfilling life. They'd also like to talk to carers, who play a key role in supporting people with a serious mental illness.

Your feedback is anonymous and will help improve services for people with mental health needs in Lambeth. Healthwatch Lambeth will be flexible and talk to people at a time and a place that best suits you, in person over the phone or online.

Each participant will receive a £15 shopping voucher from Healthwatch Lambeth as a token of appreciation for your participation.

Black African and Caribbean men who live in Lambeth and meet the criteria above can share views online, by completing this short survey https://www.smartsurvey.co.uk/s/6B7J8A/.

Alternatively, you can share your experience in person or over the phone - please contact Anna D’Agostino at 07737 599224 or email Anna at anna.dagostino@healthwatchlambeth.org.uk.

Healthwatch Lambeth is a partner organisation within Lambeth Together.

Lambeth Together outlines the priorities that we aim to achieve over the next five years in our Health and Care Plan, Our Health, Our Lambeth, with clear aspirations and outcomes.

We want people to have positive experiences of health and care services that they trust and meet their needs, particularly so that people using mental health support services can recover and stay well, with the right support, and can participate on an equal footing in daily life.
