Welcome to Let’s Talk Health and Care in South East London 

We would like to understand how do you usually dispose of used inhalers?ContextDid you know that the used inhaler are harmful to the environment? With each used inhaler containing the equivalent gas emissions to driving 71.8 miles in an average petrol car, disposing of these properly is vital to south east London&rsquo;s environment and the wellbeing of local communities.South East London Integrated Care System has launched the first site of an inhaler recycling pilot at King&#39;s College Hospital. The project aims to reduce waste and lower carbon emissions, and help people dispose of their inhalers safely by encouraging patients to return their used or expired inhalers. The inhalers will be recycled with the aim of recovering and repurposing the propellants in the inhalers which are environmentally damaging greenhouse gases. These inhalers will be sent to specialist facilities at <a href="https://www.grundon.com/services/hazardous-waste/inhaler-recycling/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Grundon Waste Management</a> for recycling, aiming to recover and repurpose a substantial portion of the propellant gases.This project also meets the objectives set out in the <a href="https://www.selondonics.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/ICS-Green-Plan-2022-2025.pdf">SEL ICS Green Plan 2022-2025</a> of ensuring no clinical waste goes to landfill and reducing the environmental impact of inhalers. As part of developing the project the team run a focus group with respiratory patients to inform the design of the posters for this campaign. Share your experiences and what you think about the NHS 111 service in south east London

The NHS South East London Integrated Care System (SEL ICS) overprescribing team are keen to hear from people and communities across south east London to help us jointly address this issue. Overprescribing is when people, such as people with multiple long term conditions, are taking medicines to manage their conditions that are not necessarily helpful or are not addressing what matters to them about their health. The SEL ICS overprescribing project wants to hear from you to better understand your views and experience of taking many medicines and what is important to you right now. We are keen to hear from carers as well as people taking medicines. This will help the NHS and other health and care organisations in south east London implement key recommendations in the national overprescribing report, <a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/national-overprescribing-review-report" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">National overprescribing review report.</a><iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/YLfv5ITrj_g?&wmode=opaque&rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="" class="fr-draggable"></iframe>We held two webinars, where participants had the opportunity to find out more about the overprescribing project, how to get involved and to ask questions. Please note that the survey is now closed. Since hosting the two webinars in July, we have visited the following groups / event to discuss members&#39; and participants&#39; views and experiences about taking many medicines which included feedback from residents and carers from a residential care home. Their weekly yoga session is a space to bring services both from NHS and Royal Borough of Greenwich to address inequalities within health of the community. <a href="https://lewishamirish.org.uk/">Lewisham Irish Community Centre (LICC)</a> Ajoda Group, Greenwich<a href="https://caringmindblog.com/mental-health-events/">Ethnic Mental Health Carers Forum</a><a href="https://www.holycross-catford.org.uk/diamond-club.html">The Diamond Club</a><a href="https://www.salvationarmy.org.uk/older-people/care-homes/glebe-court">Glebe Court Care Home, Lewisham</a>Members from each group expressed a keen interest to engage by talking about their medicines and sharing their experiences. Emerging themes from group discussions:<ul><li>Difficulties accessing GP for non-urgent appointments (ie. medication review and discussions)</li><li>More understanding / information about prescribed medicines and side effects </li><li>Concerns about interactions with other medicines </li><li>Poor awareness of what support is available re medicines ie. medication review </li><li>Burden of managing and co-ordinating complexities of medicines management (carers) </li><li>Willingness to discuss stopping unwanted or unused medicines (carers and patients) </li><li>Need for advocacy to help navigate complexities in medicines processes (carers) </li><li>Common use of herbal, supplements </li><li>Barriers - language </li><li>Value informal outreach to engage and talk about what matters</li></ul>Learn more by watching the video below about the impact that SEL Overprescribing programme engagement outreach approach had in Eileen&rsquo;s life. The session was chaired by the National Clinical Director for Prescribing, Professor Tony Avery and over 150 delegates heard how we engaged with our patients and communities about their perspectives and experiences of taking medicines. The presentation covered the aims and objectives of the engagement work and showcased how the Let&#39;s Talk Health and Care online platform, webinars and outreach have been instrumental to highlight the themes, feedback and insights about the issues that matter most to our patients (and their carers) when taking medicines. Tell us about your experience of taking many medicines 

The NHS in South East London is working alongside Citizens UK to find out what is putting pressure on people's health and wellbeing as part of the Anchor System programme. Our health is closely linked to the environments we live in. We know that if you have issues with your housing, employment and income, or access to essential resources, these can all have an impact on your physical and mental health. Alongside its work to provide essential health and care services, the NHS can also work to improve the social and economic conditions people live in, to help prevent illness and improve the lives of people living in South East London. What is the listening campaign? This listening campaign aims to involve you and other people living in south east London representing our diverse communities to understand the pressures on you and your community. Listening to a large number of people will enable us to hear about the impact of a diverse range of issues people experience in South East London. This listening campaign will help organisations in South East London, including the NHS, councils, the voluntary sector, and universities, work together to support people to live good lives, for example through work opportunities, fair pay, and creating healthy places to live and work. MSK conditions affect the joints, bones and muscles and they also include autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis. NHS organisations are working together across south east London to improve the patient journey for people with MSK conditions and have formed the south east London MSK Programme. NEW!! Emma James, the Musculoskeletal (MSK) Project Manager in the Planned Care Team for South East London Integrated Care Board (SEL ICB) took the opportunity to tell us in a blog article about her learning from working with people and communities. Emma explained about the importance of working with people with lived experience to make quality improvement changes in the Musculoskeletal programmes in south east London. &lsquo;I wanted to ensure that we incorporated lived experience voices from the start of the SEL MSK programme, not as a tick-box exercise, but as an integral part of the work.&rsquo; &ndash; said Emma.
