We would like to understand how women and girls wish to engage with and access healthcare. 





This will help inform the development of Women and Girls' Health Hubs in South East London.How you can get involved:More background information is included below to update you on our work around women's and girls' health in south east London. We are keen to hear from you about:What health services and support are most important to women and girls in our community?How can these services be delivered so they are easier to access?How can we ensure women and girls in our diverse communities have access to knowledge and information about their health and wellbeing - including where to go and how to know if they might need support from a healthcare professional? What are the barriers you and other women and girls in your community face in relation to health? What could we do to remove these barriers so that everyone has access to the care and support they need, regardless of where they live or their situation?Please take a few minutes to complete our short survey here.You can also join discussions in the forum below.ContextWe want to change the way women and girls’ health is delivered in our communities, so that it meets the needs of those who need it most.As part of a national Women’s Health Strategy* there has been a commitment to developing ‘women's health hubs’. Women's health hubs aim to:join up health and care services in the communityhelp more women to have access to information, in an easy to understand and culturally appropriate way, to make decisions about their health and well-being support women with 'related health issues' to be seen in the right setting, by the right professional, at the right time. *While the Women's Health Strategy refers to women, some people who do not identify as women will also require access to and may benefit from care in women’s health hubs. These groups will also have specific needs and experiences which will be considered. You can find out more about the national Women’s Health Strategy here.While the NHS and Local Authorities provide high quality care in many places, the way services are currently funded and provided can make it difficult for some women and girls to access 'women's health' services, support and advice in a timely way. Many of these women go on to suffer ill-health that could have been prevented or treated earlier to enable them to live healthier for longer.For example:Despite very good evidence that Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) can help relieve many issues women face with menopause, there is a lack of awareness about how HRT can help and how to access it alongside other well-being support, and women in south east London are less likely than other parts of England to be prescribed HRT.Many girls might be dealing with heavy periods or potential signs of a condition called endometriosis but may not feel comfortable talking about this with a health care professional or know where to go for support.Nearly 50% of pregnancies in England are unplanned but many women do not know what they need to do to help increase their chance of having a healthy birth and birth experience, or what to do to help prevent becoming pregnant if they do not wish to have children.Issues to do with the pelvic floor muscles, such as bladder control, especially after giving birth, are common but often under-diagnosed and under-treated. Many women may not feel comfortable to discuss these problems or may not know about treatments.Each Integrated Care System is expected to have at least one Women's Health hub operational by the end of December 2024. We want to ensure that our approach to women's and girls' health in South East London meets the needs of our communities, addresses real life issues and closes the gap on unfair and avoidable differences in health outcomes. Nationally we are required to have 8 services offered within the hub; however, there may be other services that are important to you and women and girls living in our diverse communities across south East London. The 8 services include:menstrual problems, including heavy, painful or irregular menstrual bleeding, and care for conditions such as endometriosis and polycystic ovary syndromemenopausecontraception support and methods (for example, long acting reversible contraception such as coils or implants) and emergency hormonal contraception (often called 'the morning after pill')care for people in the lead up to getting pregnant ('pre-conception care')breast painpessary fitting and removal (which can sometimes be needed to help improve a women's pelvic floor and bladder control)cervical screening (a test to help prevent cancer)screening and treatment for sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and HIV screeningNext StepsYour feedback is crucial in shaping a health hub that is co-designed with the people who will be using them, and one that truly serves the needs of women and girls in South East London.Alongside this feedback, we are undertaking a public health needs assessment to better understand the health needs of women and girls in south east London and reviewing existing insights from engagement activities across the integrated care system. Staff are working hard, but many people still find it difficult to get the right care when they need it.On 12 September, Lord Darzi published an independent review of the NHS. It aimed to start an open conversation about the state of our health and service and the change we need. The review showed the scale of the challenge. People find it hard to get appointments, can have long waits and we need to focus more on preventing people from getting ill.That is why the NHS England together with Department of Health and Social Care has launched <a href="https://change.nhs.uk/en-GB/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Change NHS: help build a health service fit for the future</a>. This is a national conversation to listen to your views and ideas to inform the development of the national 10-Year Health Plan.We know change is needed. But we also know that many of the solutions we need are already here, working somewhere in the NHS today. Change NHS: help build a health service fit for the future

Tell us your views on community sickle cell care in South East London Sickle cell services across south east London are changing. One of the ways we are doing this is by providing a new community-based services designed to give greater support people living with sickle cell disorder of all ages. We are doing this by focusing on these areas:<ul type="disc"><li>More nurses: There will be more specialist nurses available for both children and adults with sickle cell. These nurses will work with local NHS trusts.</li><li>Wider team of experts (multi-disciplinary team): Patients will have access to community-based dietitians, physiotherapists, psychologists, and pharmacists who can help manage your condition.</li><li>Help with everyday life: The service can offer welfare advice and support on benefits and legal matters.</li><li>Peer support: Young people with sickle cell can connect with others to share experiences and support each other through a <a href="https://www.sicklecellsociety.org/">Sickle Cell Society</a> programme. While some areas may already have access to a range of specialised support, others are still in the process of recruiting healthcare professionals. We&#39;re working hard to ensure that all patients in south east London can benefit from this improved service as soon as possible.<div id="_com_1" language="JavaScript">Context and backgroundSickle cell disorder can be a very challenging condition to live with. Here in south east London, we&#39;re putting in great effort to improve the care available for everyone with sickle cell. Our work is part of a wider initiative across the capital, the <a href="https://www.slcn.nhs.uk/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/London-Sickle-Cell-Improvement-Programme-infographic.pdf">London Sickle Cell Improvement Programme</a>. The London Sickle Cell Improvement Programme is also making changes to community care across the NHS in London, alongside making patient information accessible and digital on the <a href="https://ucp.onelondon.online/about/">Universal Care Plan</a>, and setting up sickle cell emergency bypass units. Join us in shaping the future of sickle cell care in south east London

In south east London we are looking at the benefits that more personalised support including &lsquo;creative health&rsquo; can have on improving people&rsquo;s health and wellbeing. Creative health offers a different approach to health and wellbeing - one that draws on community assets and mobilises creative, cultural to support people to live well. Creative Health might be taking part in a community gardening project, a singing for wellbeing group, a social arts and crafts session, a cookery class, or any other creative activity which you might be taking part in at home, in a community or health setting, or in a cultural or heritage space. This work is a partnership between the local councils, the voluntary and creative sector, the Greater London Authority and NHS South East London. We are one of two areas in London testing out this approach, to see how we can use less traditional methods to support people to live well for longer and things that make sense in their lives.The South East London Creative Health Programme aims to explore how and where creative programmes are supporting the reduction of health inequalities across our six boroughs. In our approach we are setting up a Creative Health Co-Production Working Group. The purpose of which is to:<ul><li>Assess the understanding and impact of Creative Health programmes in different communities across south east London and gain an understanding of the value of creative health and how easy people find it to take part in these activities and programmes </li><li>Plan and deliver further work with local people and communities in the programme using a range of ways to find out views about what creative health means to people and communities and how it supports people to stay well including workshops and outreach. </li><li>Share information about <a href="https://londoncreativehealthcity.org.uk/">London&rsquo;s Creative Health City</a> in partnership with the Greater London Authority and explore what impact this could have on local people. </li><li>Seek involvement from local people to share stories of the impact of Creative Health at the upcoming South East London Creative Health event in February 2025. </li></ul>Are you interested in the impact creativity can have on health and wellbeing in communities in south east London?We are currently seeking group members to play a key role in helping us explore the value of Creative Health in South East London and its potential to keep communities well.
