Background

The NHS faces big challenges. Staff are working hard, but many people still find it difficult to get the right care when they need it.

On 12 September, Lord Darzi published an independent review of the NHS. It aimed to start an open conversation about the state of our health and service and the change we need. The review showed the scale of the challenge. People find it hard to get appointments, can have long waits and we need to focus more on preventing people from getting ill.

That is why the NHS England together with Department of Health and Social Care has launched Change NHS: help build a health service fit for the future. This is a national conversation to listen to your views and ideas to inform the development of the national 10-Year Health Plan.

We know change is needed. But we also know that many of the solutions we need are already here, working somewhere in the NHS today. We in NHS South East London are already working hard and are supporting the NHS to tackle these challenges. Read more about our work on our South East London Integrated Care System website

We also know there is much more to do, which is why we are playing our part in the launch the consultation for the 10-Year Health Plan alongside the government, and we want to hear from you — patients, their families and the wider public — about your NHS story.

How can you get involved?

Your views, no matter how big or small, will help shape a new approach. This is open to everyone whether you are a member of the public or work in health and care in England tell us how the NHS needs to change.

Whether you have a little to say or a lot, your views, experiences and ideas will shape immediate steps and long-term changes: a new 10-Year Health Plan for the NHS.

  • how the NHS could change to deliver high quality care more effectively and what works well that the NHS should do more of
  • how other parts of the health and care system and other organisations could change to promote better health and/or improve the way they work together
  • how individuals and communities could do things differently in future to improve people’s health
