MSK conditions affect the joints, bones and muscles and they also include autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis.
MSK community services are provided across various locations in the community. Following a referral and assessment, professionals treat people who are experiencing a level of discomfort or pain and/or restricted movement in an area of their body (hand and wrist, elbow and shoulder, back and neck, hip and knee or ankle and foot).
Alongside physical therapy, MSK services also seek to support people with the emotional and mental health impact of their condition.
What is happening in relation to MSK services?
We are reviewing musculoskeletal (MSK) services across Greenwich because we want to ensure that we are meeting the needs of the community, whilst also spending money as wisely as possible.
We are also starting a process to re-procure the MSK community service because the current contract ends in March 2024. A fundamental and early part of this process is engagement: it is really important to us that we spend time talking with people with diverse backgrounds from across the borough, to listen to hear and understand what they think about the current service.
We will use people’s feedback in two ways:
a) reflecting back what we think we have heard to check that we have listened accurately and understood people’s views
b) to develop the description of the service (service model / specification) that we want to buy (procure / commission)
We are also looking at how we might be able to involve people from the community in the procurement evaluation process.
We are building on the work to Improve the patient journey for people with musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions carried out across south east London and specifically want to hear what Greenwich residents who have used MSK services think.
